The operational phase of the project ended on 30th June 2007:
-
The objectives of the partnership have been achieved and the the project has proven the theory that if people learn English in the context of healthcare they would be more inclined to apply for jobs in that sector.
-
A short video was shot at Tameside Hospital of two real people describing the qualifications, experience and personal attributes they needed to get their jobs. Gita is an admin assistant and Tubassum is a phlebotomist. There is then a series of inter-active question and answer exercises based on the video followed by paper based activities and use of the internet. Learners are given the opportunity to practice what they have learnt by identifying a post on the NHS Jobs web-site and matching their own skills and experience to the job description and personal specification. The learning materials were developed by the collaboration of two partners:- the software by Tribal Education and Technology (CTAD) and LLU+, part of London South Bank University who are recognised ESOL language experts. As partners, the Home Office and the Department of Health allowed the project to draw on information from Citizenship Materials for ESOL learners (DfES, 2006) and Skilled for Health (DfES, 2006).
-
The one module "Working in Healthcare" with support e-learning materials is available on a CD available from the project office..
-
The example of learning materials has been tested domestically in London, Liverpool, and Sheffield and in European partner cities of Copenhagen and Gothenburg.

The results of the testing will be disseminated via a final conference that will take place at the QE2 conference Centre in London on the 6th November 2007.
-
As the theory has been proven the DP will seek to secure funding for the development of a complete learning package.
